AUSTRALIA

Photographs from 1969 to the present day

Apart form a period 1980-81 when I lived in England (London and Oxford) I've lived in Australia.

There have been trips. Overseas - S.E.Asia, Central Asia, North America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe and Australasia. Australia I've travelled up the East coast road from Wilson's Promintory in the south to Cape Tribulation in Qld in the north. Acoss the South, East to West and back. Tasmania. The West coast from Margaret River in the South to Monkey Mia, Australia's capital cities. Most years have been spent in Melbourne & Malmsbury in Victoria although there have been sojourns living in Tasmania and Sydney during the 1970s. The centre I know only through flying over with eyes to the window...

1982

Many photos on this site that have their own page - Malmsbury, Melbourne, Johanna, the Man-Woman originate from Australia<br>

This page is for photos that don't have their own page, yet have their origins in Australia... incomplete - a selection

Fishing Boats, Lakes Entrance, Victoria 1969

An early hand held night shot. Out of focus and camera shake wasn't a problem then and is sometimes can still be a secondary concern!

Reminded me of the NGV Leonard French ceiling.
Included as I was amazed to have got anything - photography is the most geneous medium.

SKIES

There are few breathtaking mountains in Australia...

Clouds above the flat horizon and broad plains often seem like magical ephemeral mountains...

The first series of photos I considered making (in the 1960s) was clouds.

Now, like then there's nothing better to do on a summer's day than lay back, gaze on the clouds and dream!

PHOTOS from Oct 2011 to June 2014

Due to an unfortunate experience with a disc drive neally all photographic work from the period Oct 2011 to June 2014 is lost.

The hard drive (a Maxtor Basics External Desktop 1TB Hard Drive PN:9NZ2D8-500) will no longer run. It was at half capacity with practically all photos I had taken from Oct 2011 to June 2014. I think about 300gb of photos with nothing backed up. To date there have been three attempts to recover some data with no good news but considerable cost. Most work lost is general photography - Malmsbury Landscapes, Portraits of the people of Malmsbury, the preceding Cairns trip and a New Zealand South Isand trip. The portraits were a developed body of work, a visual record of many occupants of Malmsbury at that time with several people having already passed away. A few photos from that period have been found on SD cards but almost nothing else exists from that period. The only place that the preceding Cairns photos on this page exist is here on this website, low resolution though they are. The following two photographs of Franz Joseph Glacier in N.Z. were printed to participate in an exhibition in Taradale. I won first prize with the following photo not realising it was a competition or probably wouldn't have particpated. Under those circumstances winning was nice and two photographs were printed the lone survivors of that N.Z. trip. The first is on a friend's wall in Carlton.

Any expertise or recommendations to help with data recovery gratefully received.

NEW ZEALAND

South Island, December 2010

Two visits to New Zealand to date - the North Island in 1990 and the South Island in 2010. As outlined above the following two photos are the sole survivors.
